Kiele always has a different atmosphere to other events on the Olympic circus. Typically, events stand alone but kiele is part of a two week festival of the sea bringing thousands of spectators into the event village.
Team Skandia Gbr has brought a small commando squad to this event but the quality is still there, especially in the 49'ers. I've got 3 teams at the event: draper-Greenhalgh, fletcher-sign and pink-peacock and so far they've all been winning races and looking to be in great form.
The 1st day saw strong offshore winds up to 22kts and Chris and Pete layed down two bullets before dylan and alain dominated race 4. Since then it's been a waiting game as conditions changed to variable 2-5kt winds and very mixed results from all the contenders.
The main gossip at the event I'd the announcement that Audi will be title sponsor to the german sailing team. Talk is that it's a big money deal built on the GBR model. The same approach was taken by AUS and DEN at the beginning of the cycle and it'd a good sign that sponsors are starting to value sailing as a viable option.
So today it's the final day of gold fleet racing before the medal races and it's going to be about the series for all the British contenders. No discards, no Ocs's and low risk sailing.
Find out later how they fare!
