Today we moved into the Village and its great to be back!
We raced here in May for the Test Event so the whole team are familiar and comfortable in the setting. The security is fairly tight and its frustrating how time consuming the process of accreditation is.
The key for us is to keep the sailors as comfortable as possible and start building an air of invincibility around the team. The Olympic teams results have helped intimidated the other nations and the whispering camps have already started. "The Brits are doing this" and "have you heard about their boats?" etc.... We're happy to let them self destruct while we just go about our final week of checks and tuning.
Next step measurement!
The last 5 days have been pretty testing for a number of reasons.
Our Olympic Manager (Sparky) arrives on the 6th so in the meantime I'm Chef-de-Mission which is a hugh honour. The leadership responsibility is new for me and i've already been tested. We've had issues with our training facility which required a spot of negotiation to release of our container before it could be shipped to the Village.
Now we're in its house keeping issues that take up the time. It's essential they don't distract me too much from my coaching role so I need to keep delegating.
