1st Race Win!

With the regatta at its halfway point the weight of expectation seems to have been lifted off Alex and Niki’s shoulders as they recorded their first race win in difficult conditions.
It needed a bit of luck as the team recovered from another poor start but we’ll take anything we can get to get us back into the regatta. The result lifted the team to 4th overall but the reality is that we have a lot to do to get into the medal zone. Ideally we need another 3 races so the second discard kicks in enabling us to drop the 8th and 9th from day 2. That would close the gap significantly but with light winds forecasted again it’s unlikely that we’ll get a full schedule of races in.
The key for us now is to put pressure on USA, AUS and CAN and see what happens. AUS and CAN are pretty close on points and they have a great deal to lose in a protest situation. I’d expect them to be pre-occupied with each other during today’s racing and that gives us an opportunity to attack. No room for error, everything to gain!
