A Difficult Start to the Regatta

We're now 5 races into the Paralympic regatta and none of the 'Team GB' boats are where they expected to be. It's by no means over and tonight we stressed the point that many of our Olympic counterparts were in a similar position at this point only to turn the regatta around in the second half and medal. As we all know its not just about your own performance and in the Skud fleet many of the other medal contenders have started the regatta with some excellent results. They are more than capable of having an off day and if we match that with a turn in form the results table can look very different!

It's at times like this that a coach also needs to step up and identify what needs to change and what needs to stay the same while helping build confidence after two tough days. That's also pretty difficult for us to stop emotion getting in the way of what's actually happening on the race course. I fell into that mistake today and what I thought I saw was very different to what the Mark rounding data showed on the website. Always good to check in with some Objectivity and it took Sparky (our Olympic manager) to point that one out for me.

Lay day tomorrow but not for us! We've got some training to do so that we hit the ground (water) running on Thursday.
